We live in a changing society where that change comes at a pace we do not always welcome. In such times it is as well to look for the things that have not changed and against this we can measure our own progress. Here, at New Court Chambers, we are confident in asserting that we are foremost in our field of endeavour, principally the practice of Criminal Law and afraid of none of the changes Parliament, the Courts and the Treasury have forced upon us all.
With, at present, 38 members of chambers we boast several hundred years of hard won experience in advocacy in the Criminal Courts. The very particular co-operative and yet competitive arrangement of barristers’ chambers provides to our clients, lay and professional, a service and level of skill not on offer in any other arrangement or set-up where criminal lawyers practice together. Countless firms of Solicitors, who have been our valued clients for many years, bear witness to the truth of this assertion by their continued recourse to the service New Court Chambers provides. They know that whatever their own skills in advocacy in the lower courts, when it comes to the cut and thrust of difficult and often unforeseen submissions required for the smooth and effective running of a jury trial, they would be selling their clients short if they did not instruct those with the experience to win for them.
The Treasury has seen fit to foist upon the profession as a whole a fee structure that encourages others to “have a go”. At New Court Chambers the client who needs the best support and advice and advocacy will find it with us. And it’s on offer wherever in England or Wales he or she needs us.
As with the advocates, listed opposite, we have a support staff of Clerks and Managers to match the service provided elsewhere. In addition we are established providers of Continuing Education to all our professional clients by the provision of seminars and lectures throughout the year at sessions contributed to by visiting academics alongside lectures and case studies run by our Barristers to keep us and you abreast of changes in the Law and Practice.
